Whitefish
The whitefish is likely one of the most disregarded fish in Ontario. Popular amongst ice fishers, however, the whitefish can pose quite a challenge to many. More populous in deeper waters, they are great table fare. Smaller whitefish can end up as food for predators, but adult whitefish are hard fighters. Experienced anglers recognize their action as fully grown whitefish can range from four to 12 pounds.
Belying their name, whitefish are primarily olive green in colour. With silvery sides, large scales and narrow mouth, they are quite recognizable.
